The mixed exhibition, prepared with 122 artists and 140 works who graduated from Tatbiki Fine Arts College, which was accepted as the “largest Bauhaus school” opened in Europe after World War II, and from different departments of Marmara University Fine Arts, which continues education with the principles of the school despite its name changing, was opened under the name of “Ekol Tatbiki”. Within the scope of the exhibition that met with art lovers at Maltepe Prof. Dr. Türkan Saylan Cultural Center on October 3, 140 works produced by 122 artists with different disciplines can be visited in great harmony until November 1.

It was explained that the common point of the works made in different sizes, with different techniques and with different signatures is that they reflect a school, the “Tatbiki” school and the “Tatbiki” spirit. While the infinity sign following the dash placed after 1957 on the exhibition poster emphasizes that the Tatbiki school has continued, will continue and even indicates its sustainability; it drew attention that valuable names who taught at different institutions, primarily Tatbiki and Marmara University, and who taught many artists whose works are in the exhibition honored the exhibition with their works. The fact that valuable artists of the school who are no longer alive took their places in the exhibition and were kept alive with their works was greatly appreciated by the participants.

The owner of the exhibition idea and curator Berrin Aksu stated that the 122 names on the poster were artists they were able to reach during the exhibition preparation process and gave the message, “I am already inviting my artist friends who I could not reach to next year’s exhibition.” The mixed exhibition, where paintings, sculptures, ceramics, frescoes, mosaics, glass bottoms, textile weaving, wood, stained glass works, illustrations, cartoons and photographs will be seen together, will continue until November 1, 2024.

Berrin Aksu, who undertook the curatorship of the exhibition, made a statement after the opening and said, “This is a first. I hope that Ekol Tatbiki will inspire the exhibitions that will be opened every year, and that the number of Bauhaus-educated artists and the works they produce will increase every year,” he said.

During the opening of the exhibition, her friends stated that Berrin Aksu had been dreaming of this exhibition for three years and had shown great effort, patience and tolerance to make it happen. Her schoolmates who attended the exhibition presented an Atatürk bust to Berrin Aksu by having the artist Faruk Manici prepare it for her as a thank you.

Curator Berrin Aksu stated that she found the Atatürk bust presented to her as a thank you very meaningful and said, “I would like to thank both my friends and Faruk Manici separately.”

Güler Ertan, one of the first graduates of Tatbiki and who trained students as a Graphics Department instructor at the school for many years, was also presented with the certificate of appreciation given to every artist participating in the exhibition.

One of the works that drew attention in the exhibition was the work made by Gül Bolulu. Guests who attended the exhibition together with the artists used her work as a background and had their souvenir photos taken.
