Who is Ömer Uğuş? (1989-Diyarbakır) He was born in Diyarbakır in 1989 and completed his primary and secondary school education in 1997 at İsmet Paşa Primary School, one of the well-established schools in the Sur district. Uğuş, whose interest in painting was noticed from a young age, turned to this field with the encouragement of his teachers during his school years. In 2003, he started his high school education at Melik Ahmet High School and attended Sedat Enver Konuksever's pattern and color trainings with the guidance of his art teacher. This process formed an important basis for his artistic development. After graduating from Melik Ahmet High School in 2007, he was placed in Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Painting in 2010 by showing superior success in both pattern and imagery exams. He deepened his understanding of art with the education he received from Prof. Musa Köksal, but wanted to continue his education in an environment closer to Diyarbakır. In 2011, he transferred to Dicle University Faculty of Fine Arts and was placed first in the class. Continuing his education in Bahattin Eren's workshop, Uğuş successfully graduated from Dicle University in 2015. After settling in Dicle University, he started to provide art education to students from many regions of Turkey and contributed to the placement of more than 700 students in fine arts faculties across Turkey. The students he trained continue their careers as successful artists in different branches of art such as painting, sculpture, visual arts, and ceramics. In 2021, he was placed in the master's program at Şırnak University Institute of Fine Arts and graduated in 2023. During this process, he was placed in the program by getting full points in the practical exam and conducted a thesis study focusing on the historical structures of Diyarbakır. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. İsmail Ateş, he examined the architectural and cultural evolution of Diyarbakır city walls and reflected these structures in his works of art as cultural heritage carriers. Ömer Uğuş presents a strong narrative in his works that brings together historical architecture and contemporary art, and especially visualizes the historical texture of Diyarbakır with an abstract language. His art includes many cultural references, from battlements to Gothic architecture. Diyarbakır's historical walls, streets and stone houses are often the main theme of his works. In addition, he brings together local and universal themes by reflecting the general historical heritage of Anatolia in his works. Specializing in watercolor, oil painting and mixed techniques, Uğuş creates dramatic effects with the use of color and light-shadow plays. Uğuş, who continues his art in his studio in Diyarbakır, continues to participate in national and international exhibitions and offers his audience both a historical and contemporary artistic experience. Art Perspective; His understanding of art focuses on discovering that historical structures such as the Diyarbakır walls carry not only a physical but also a spiritual meaning. According to him, these structures take their place in the memory of society as a memory and cultural code. Uğuş believes that art finds meaning at the intersection of social and individual identity while bringing the past into today's world. As an artist, he aims to not only reflect the world but also rebuild it. Uğuş brings together historical and contemporary language; each work reminds us of the past while carrying a message about the future. He sees his art as a force that transforms societies and includes current issues such as war, migration and cultural conflict in his works. Beyond color, light and form, for Uğuş, the real power of art lies in the dialogue it establishes with the viewer. It encourages the viewer to think and question their own origins. He evaluates his art as both an aesthetic and emotional healing process; he believes that his works have the power to relieve the burdens created by social and historical traumas.
