  • Who is Sabri Akça? Painter Sabri Akça was born in 1936 in Sancar village of Eskişehir. He graduated from Hamidiye Village Institute in 1948. In 1951, he passed the talent exam and started studying at Istanbul Çapa Painting Department and then at Gazi Education Institute Painting Department. During his student years, the artist was accepted to the State Painting and Sculpture Exhibitions with 5 of his works. He won the State Painting Award in 1980 and an honorable mention in the DYO Painting Competition in 1981. He also has many awards that are in private collections in Europe, America and Turkey. Akça, who started his career as an art teacher in Kastamonu, played a major role in the training of many artists while teaching at Yozgat Akdağmadeni High School. Akça worked in the Painting Department of Gazi Education Institute for many years. After his retirement, he concentrated on painting. Our painter, who said, "It is a privilege to be a Village Institute student," brought many painters to our country. He is one of the greatest masters of watercolor in Turkey, loved very much by his students. He has gained worldwide fame, especially for the winter landscapes he paints and the red and green colors he uses in these landscapes. Sabri Akça passed away in Ankara on July 8, 2022, at the age of 86.
