Art has always been a way to ask new questions and to transcend conventional boundaries. More than an art venue, Yunt is not only a meeting point with its exhibitions, events and educational programs, but also the beginning of an intellectual journey. With its new exhibition "Degrees of Freedom", Yunt offers an experience where art redefines our perceptions of space, movement and density. I talked about my visit and the exhibition in this article.
Yunt, which I met upon being invited to the December 21st exhibition opening, greets you with a sculpture at the entrance of the area where it is located before you even arrive. Muratcan Sabuncu, the director of YUNT, later mentioned that this was a permanent work that they placed there during the opening of Yunt. This work symbolizes the herd of horses that inspired the name of the area.
Yunt is a space in Sultanbeyli focused on art and interaction. In addition to exhibitions and events, it offers its visitors the opportunity to establish new sensory relationships with the world through educational programs and publications it supports.
“Degrees of Freedom”, currently exhibited at Yunt, is curated by Kerem Ozan Bayraktar. The exhibition includes works by Sümeyra Bakır, Tayfun Erdoğmuş, Bedirhan Kılıç, Merve Karakoç, Kerem Özkan, Dila Pirinç, Beste Saraç, Ulya Soley and Berkay Tuncay. The exhibition, which opened its doors on December 21, 2024, can be visited until April 11, 2025.
“Degrees of Freedom” questions how we perceive, construct and represent space through artistic expressions. The exhibition explores different densities and possibilities of movement instead of fixed space models with the concept of “degrees of freedom”, which addresses how a system can move, transform and reshape according to environmental conditions.
Curator Kerem Ozan Bayraktar says the following about the exhibition:
“The static maps and representations we generally use when trying to understand the world cannot fully reflect the dynamic structure of life. Our life experiences are not fixed; they have a constantly changing, fluid and layered structure. We try to express our relationships with our environment, the balance between static and mobile elements and different densities through art. This exhibition goes beyond traditional space models and offers an approach that both pushes the boundaries and opens the door to new possibilities.”
Different mapping techniques, from three-dimensional modeling to projections, were used in the exhibition. These techniques aim not only to see the space but also to interact with it and rethink its meaning. According to Bayraktar, this experience encourages the viewer to question their own habits and look at the space from different perspectives.
Yunt’s atmosphere, combined with the exhibition’s artistic richness, offers visitors both a visual and intellectual journey. This exhibition is an opportunity not to be missed for anyone who wants to see how art can reshape our perception of space.
