Who is Mona Muzo (Muzaffer Bektaş)? (1971- İzmir)

• The artist, who received her primary, secondary and high school education in İzmir; graduated from Dokuz Eylül University BEF Painting Department in 1997.

• Between 1998-2001, she gave graphic agency services and various art courses in the business she founded.

• She worked as a visual arts teacher at the Ministry of National Education between 2001-2023 and retired. In 2018, she founded the Art İstasyon Plastic Arts Group and curated it.

• Since 2019, she has been the chairman of the board of directors of the Art İstasyon Plastic Arts Group, which she founded, and since April 2022, she has been the chairman of the İzmir Watercolor Painters Association. In June 2023, she attended the extraordinary general assembly of the Association and changed its name to the International İZARTİST Association, which embraces all disciplines. She continues her artistic life in her own studio in İzmir. There are many solo and mixed exhibitions and fair participations.

Art Perspective

Artist Mona Muzo addresses our visual perceptions and holds a mirror to the complex and uncertain. The artist’s paintings; In addition to carrying an abstract and figurative identity, they have also directed her works in order to reflect the identity illusions of societies.

The artist, who feeds on the factors affecting social and individual lives today and the examples that cause the dynamics of all these processes to carry: presents sections from her own inner world using color and texture. The artist shows this difficult illusion by addressing the ways colors are used and dressing them with a different identity and emotion. The hard and agile nature of the tree form; has enabled the artist to establish a socio-political connection with her stance. The artist, who says “Reality is different from its flawless function”, has consciously chosen to stay away from a clear stance with her stigmatizing attitude and abstract language.

Mona Muzo paintings, defined with a figurative sensitivity of conceptual uncertainty, create a cleverly constructed awareness by addressing colors from a wider perspective. The source of inspiration being nature itself, he wanted to convey the unknown formation of the ongoing system by circulating between the boundaries of the real and the unreal. The artist blended an expressionist attitude through a single “image” accumulated in him by the ambiguous journey, and presented a figurative abstraction to the viewer. He revealed the upper and lower tones of the dominant colors in the production process, their semi-contrasts and their grays with a different technique. The basic denominator of the works is to take the viewer beyond this process through the ambiguous.
