The new exhibition of Muzaffer Akyol, one of the leading artists of Turkish painting, opens in Bodrum with the title "Fire touches water, water rejoices, fire goes out".
The opening of the exhibition will be held at Touch Art Gallery in Bodrum Göltürkbükü, on Wednesday, June 5, at 19.00, with the participation of Muzaffer Akyol.
It can be seen at Touch Sanat at Göltürkbükü Hebil Street number 11/431 until July 10.
Muzaffer Akyol talks about himself as follows in his work titled "Dağana", in which he depicts 110-year-old Muazzez İlmiye Çığ, Turkey's first and one of the world's most important Sumerologists;
"He is a sage who still thinks, writes, sees and tells in his life span of more than a century. Muazzez İlmiye Çığ is a sage who solves the secrets of the Sumerians and builds bridges between civilizations. I have always had the honor of knowing him and talking to him. He is one of the very valuable symbols of the Republic. Muazzez İlmiye Çığ. In front of him I bow respectfully."
Poet and writer Ataol Behramoğlu talks about Muzaffer Akyol and his works as follows;
"After seeing Muzaffer Akyol's paintings one after another, the two words that came to my mind were 'icon' and 'mystery'. I felt the same way when I visited the rooms of the several-storey workshop-house in Asmalı Mescit. This symbolism and mystery seemed to overflow from the paintings and drawings and permeate the workshop-house. I once experienced a similar feeling in Gustavmoreau's museum house in Paris. There is no doubt that there is more light and lighter colors in Akyol than in Moreau. Their worlds are undoubtedly different from each other. The world that Akyol's symbols take us to belongs entirely to us. With its cypresses, fish and birds; This is a world that belongs to us, our culture, with its famous frog, other animals, trees and sense of symmetry. On the other hand, there is also a place in this world for Chagall, Klimt, Picasso and the impressionists. Akyol is obviously an artist who can't sit still. And again, he is obviously a painter who works with thoughts as well as emotions. It is not easy to decide in which picture emotion or thought takes precedence over the other. I think that the painter himself cannot easily explain this. I am not an art critic. I am not an art critic at all. But I like to leave my body to the world of a painting, as if I were leaving it to the waves, and go as far as I can in that world...
Who is Muzaffer Akyol?
Born in Trabzon in 1945, Muzaffer Akyol studied at Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts (now known as Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University) and Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu Workshop.
Akyol, who interprets the subjects he chooses from the environment and daily life in his unique style, is known for his visual-critical attitude towards the relationship between society and tradition.
The artist, who has held exhibitions in the United States, Australia and the Netherlands, continues his life and work in Istanbul and Bodrum.
Muzaffer Akyol is also the father of painter/musician Gaye Su Akyol, with whom he also organized joint exhibitions.
