Who is Nilgün Altıntığ? (1977 – İzmir)

She was born in Karşıyaka, İzmir. After graduating from the Painting Department of Buca Education Institute in 1977, she completed her undergraduate studies in 1987 and retired from the Graphics Department of Karşıyaka Vocational High School. She taught History of Graphic Design at İzmir University of Economics between 2003-2005. She opened her first personal exhibition at İzmir State Painting and Sculpture Museum and Gallery in 2016. During her artistic career, she developed and exemplified her woodblock print works by understanding painting as a “design phenomenon”, with an abstract, figurative language, and by advocating a sensitive painting practice and aesthetics at a contemporary perception point. In her works, we can observe the stages that women in our country go through in a troubled social process. In addition to restless and sad impressions, the existence of the power to shape life and the future is reflected in her works.

The artist tries to ensure that the expressionist understanding and principles transform into original and continuous values that characterize her painting without ever abandoning plastic anxiety. There is a formal approach, a linguistic expression, not as the object and figure are, but as one wants to see them. Tension and sadness are based on the composition of the elements that emerge as a result of a transitional, free research. Figures turn into portraits. Experienced accents gain importance. The element to which he is passionately attached in his figures is the pattern. He investigates the fragmentation that the objective world can undergo through reason and imagination with a pictorial adventure.
