"I have been writing novels for 50 years. In the first years of writing, as someone who actually wanted to be a painter, I tried to kill the painter inside me with a strong attempt..."

The opening of the exhibition titled "The Consolation of Things" by Nobel Prize winner Orhan Pamuk, whose works have been translated into world languages, was held in Munich Lenbachhaus with a record attendance. It was reported that more than 1,300 people attended the opening of the exhibition, which attracted the attention of not only art lovers but also the literary world. A queue formed at the entrance of the exhibition area, and some visitors could not enter.

In addition to 26 new installations inspired by the paintings of important artists such as Klee, Kubin, Vermeer and Watteau in the collections of Dresden SKD Museum and Munich Lenbachhaus Museum, the selection in the exhibition consisting of Orhan Pamuk's drawings, notebooks and photographs can be seen until October 13. “Orhan Pamuk is much more” In the opening speeches, museum director Matthias Mühling, who co-curated the exhibition, said that although Pamuk is primarily known as “a writer and the first Turkish writer to win the Nobel Prize in Literature”, “He is much more.” Mühling highlighted Pamuk's identities as writer, photographer, illustrator, curator and museum founder.

In the promotional text of the exhibition at the Lenbachhaus Museum, the following statements were made regarding the relationship between Pamuk's works and writing:

"In this mansion of the traveling exhibition, which was first opened in Dresden, Pamuk set out from the works of artists such as Paul Klee and Alfred Kubin from the Lenbachhaus Collection. In these new works, he told his stories through objects, as always. Pamuk focused on the consolation that objects can give us. For years, he has devoted himself to the works of artists such as Paul Klee and Alfred Kubin. "He revisited themes such as cultural change, occidentalism, orientalism, fiction, memory and the role of museums that occupy him."

Orhan Pamuk, who gave a speech at the opening, expressed himself with the following words: “I am grateful to the curators of the Lenbachhaus Museum who encouraged me to bring to light my works that I had made in notebooks and papers and kept in drawers for years. I have been writing novels for 50 years. In the first years when I started writing, as someone who actually wanted to be a painter, I tried to kill the painter inside me with a strong attempt. I determinedly transformed myself into a writer. That's why I feel happy when I paint. I always think about many things when I write; I research, measure, think about form... Many things occupy my mind while writing. “When I paint, I only express myself.”
