Painter Gülsün Yılmaz's personal painting exhibition titled "Waiting", which addresses the transformation of the female body and soul in the universe, met with art lovers at Evrim Art Gallery on April 9, 2025. In the "Waiting" exhibition, Yılmaz reflects the injustice and inequality that women are exposed to in the changing and developing universe, using her own body and portraits in a traumatic language. While emphasizing that women's power is shaped by the energy they receive from the universe and that they transfer this energy back to the universe, the painter confronts the audience with both the fragile and resistant aspects of being a woman. In the works, the destructive and healing power of nature is represented with vibrant colors and thick layers of paint. Natural motifs such as cats, birds and flowers breathe life into the portraits with brush strokes. The 31 works, in which acrylic, oil and charcoal techniques are intertwined, convey the emotions the artist encounters on her life journey with a sincere language. Textured surfaces and contrasting colors invite the viewer to deeply question the symbiotic relationship that women establish with the universe. Yılmaz’s works are not only aesthetic, but also a social manifesto. Gülsün Yılmaz, who continues her work in her own studio, addresses the connection between female identity, nature and existence in her works. The “Waiting” exhibition stands out as a reflection of her long-standing research and production process. Yılmaz expressed her thoughts about the “Waiting” exhibition as follows; “This exhibition is a reflection of the invisible connection that women establish with the universe. While the colors and power of nature inspire me, I also wanted to bring a resistance against the inequalities surrounding our bodies to the canvas. I am waiting for all art lovers to my exhibition.”
“Waiting” can be visited at Evrim Art Gallery until April 27, 2025.
