    • Who is Yıldız Duman Ercan? (1972 – Aydın) She was born in Aydın Karacasu in 1972. She studied at Dokuz Eylül University Buca Faculty of Education, Department of Painting and Crafts Education, Department of Graphics from 1991 to 1995. She completed her undergraduate studies at Mehmet Fırıncı, Demir Ali Selamet and Yüksel Uslay workshops. She completed her master’s degree with her thesis titled “Reflection of Ancient Baroque Art on European Baroque Art” at Pamukkale University Social Sciences Institute, Department of Classical Archaeology from 2011 to 2016. She continues her project titled “Colorful Screams of History”, which she prepared on Ancient Cities, Historical and Mythological Stories, consisting of seven stages and series. She participated in national and international art biennials and exhibitions. The Founder of the International Art Educators Association (USED) and also continues to serve in the Muğla Stratonikeia Ancient City Excavation Board and Denizli Attoudahisar Ancient City Excavation Board. Since 1998, the artist has prioritized human-themed graphic abstractions and nature abstractions. In the following process, he works on painting-stain-color arrangements on the surface. With the start of his Master’s Degree in Classical Archaeology, he has the opportunity to examine Antiquity, architecture, sculpture and historical facts from ancient times to the present day. He transforms sculptural forms into graphic abstractions. He evaluates every source, every piece of information and every article he examines. He especially has the opportunity to examine heroes and sculptures related to the Hellenistic period. The artist makes his drawing works in this direction. The artist’s tendency towards reality becomes evident in his works that include historical themes, especially based on sources. In his works where imagination and reality are handled together, color walks in great harmony and harmony with the subject. The faces of the figures in the artist’s works attract attention. One side of the faces is blurred, dark and uncertain. This invisible side symbolizes the unknown, the world we cannot see and intervene in, the world we call the “other”. However, the side where the face is clearly depicted in detail, represents the visible, experienced, lived-in, known side. This shows how much the artist cares about reality. History, time and place are there with both their reality and their imagination. The artist knows no bounds in terms of materials. He works on canvas, chipboard, paper, fly screens, terracotta fired ceramics, etc. He mostly uses different materials and textures together in a work, emphasizing that a part of life, if not the whole, can continue on its way, that breaking, the material described as waste can contribute to aesthetics, and aims to evoke multifaceted interpretations. Although I have a colorist approach in my works, from time to time, orange and blue are predominant, and in some periods, shades of brown, red and green are observed. As a painting artist, his aim is to convey the stories, tales, archaeological-historical legends of the ancient lands he lives in, no matter what material he uses, by making the viewer travel in time through art. To ensure that the viewer has an objective idea within the time flowing towards us. When the viewer confronts my productions, he wants the viewer to be at peace with not being able to comprehend the work he is watching, rather than worrying about understanding or being transported to the past. In his works, he aims to carry our past historical, immovable cultural values to the present day through an artistic means, and to experience the pleasure of realizing and reminding that their traces in the present day will also take us back to the past at the highest level.
