Özden Akbaşoğlu, one of the important names in Turkish contemporary art, is known for her deep and versatile works in painting. Akbaşoğlu, who graduated from the Painting Department of the State Academy of Fine Arts in 1954, completed her education in the workshop of Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu and received the foundations of her art from this important name. The unique and creative atmosphere in Eyüboğlu's workshop was also reflected in Akbaşoğlu's art and created a language of her own.

Akbaşoğlu went to Rome after completing her education, where she studied ceramic, mosaic and fresco techniques, and further deepened her artistic expression. She also went to America, where she studied Astec and Inca art and gained information about the art of different cultures. These experiences expanded her artistic dimension and she included traces of different cultures in her works.

Local motifs such as Anatolian houses, trees, birds and human figures are frequently featured in Akbaşoğlu's paintings. These elements, blended with stains and different stacking arrangements, lead the viewer to deep thoughts. The artist has enriched artistic expression and created an original language by using a wide variety of tools and materials in her works. This approach has given her a unique aesthetic and offered a revised visual experience as well as an intellectual journey.

Akbaşoğlu, who traveled around Anatolia and researched the cultures and cultural richness of Anatolian women, has reflected these experiences in her works. The blending of local and universal motifs in her works has created a meaningful and profound artistic language for details. Akbaşoğlu's art reflects the colorful nature and cultural richness of Anatolia from a modern perspective, presenting a contemporary representation of Turkish art.

The exhibition of Özden Akbaşoğlu, who passed away in 2019, which will include works from different periods, awaits its viewers at Arnavutköy Gallery Selvin between January 15-31.
