Beyoğlu Municipality hosted the ‘Now Beyoğlu’ exhibition, where different forms of art production are integrated with the spatial memory of Beyoğlu. The exhibition, where different materials and techniques are combined, from ceramics to oil paint, from recycled waste to photography, met with art lovers at the İstiklal Art Gallery located in Beyoğlu, Istanbul. Curated by Art Historian Aslı Bora, the exhibition featured works created by 10 young artists using different materials and techniques. Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney and many art lovers attended the exhibition, which will end on September 30.

Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney, who attended the exhibition, said, “What makes a person human is their search. A person is shaped in this search. They find direction and build themselves. Their love, respect and understanding always find meaning in this journey. They are not alone on this path. They have ancestors, loved ones, neighbors and friends. People believe in the power within them by being in contact and being together. This is always their compass. Cities are the sum of the places that stage this search. That is why people feel that they belong to the place they live in, and they want to find their compass in the place they live in during their life journey. It requires trust. Beyoğlu is exactly such a city. Beyoğlu is a city that has been the scene of many generations, many stories and many life struggles. That is why there is so much in their bag. It opens such a wide room in hearts that Beyoğlu people live safely in those hearts. People do not think about their religion, race, sect, color or language. Because being from Beyoğlu is above all these. Yaşar Beyoğlu offers living space to the whole country, to millions, as long as they live. A recipe is born from these experiences, and shaped by this recipe, our historical ancient city. This roof has a huge collection extending from the past to the future. In this journey, the meaning finds itself now. At this very point, our young artists said Beyoğlu now. They saw that it is possible to understand the meaning of the past and the construction of the future now. When they said Beyoğlu now, they witnessed the common memory of thousands of our neighbors who continue their journey under the same roof, on the same search, on the same journey. We are now looking at the places that are the symbols of the historical accumulation of our Beyoğlu with a different eye. Our young friends present us with an important selection of the distinguished accumulation of our ancient city under the historical hosting of İstiklal Avenue. I wholeheartedly congratulate all our young artists. We will continue to keep our Beyoğlu alive, expand the rooms in our hearts, protect our urban spaces, and be the home of art and culture. I promise you in your presence. I say may our solidarity, love and passion for art be eternal.” The curator of the exhibition, art historian Aslı Bora, said, “Beyoğlu has been living with art and culture for centuries and has actually identified with it. Therefore, it is a place that has attracted intellectuals throughout time, enabled them to produce here and even come together in various ways. In fact, it is very possible to say that, as you know, the first private art gallery of Turkey was opened very close to us at number 20 Kallavi Street and in time, so many things have happened without being added to this: cinema, performance, music, theater. Beyoğlu has actually become the equivalent of modernity in Istanbul. It has become the most important complement of the city's memory. Today, together with my ten young artist friends, we say ‘Beyoğlu Now’ to make a very important spatial emphasis of the district that manages this memory of the city. Because, as you know, both the past and the future are actually examined by taking a scale today. Therefore, together with my ten young friends, we have prepared an exhibition completely based on space and focused on space for you. I think that we have also registered in Beyoğlu's memory here.”
