Young and successful painter Ebru Köreken's There is No Place to Hide exhibition met with art lovers at the Brush Art Gallery. Köreken stated that she tried to capture some moments in the existential questioning state.
Köreken, who graduated from the Nedret Sekban - Ahmet Umur Deniz Workshop of the Painting Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Mimar Sinan University and who deals with a deep questioning state regarding existence and existential questioning in her paintings, gave information about her paintings to Zafer Newspaper.
There is a search, curiosity and questioning in her paintings
Köreken, who included dog figures in addition to the human figures she drew in the exhibition and spoke about her works, said, “Actually, when I started painting dogs, there was no agenda regarding street animals. I normally work with human figures, but what I paid attention to in animals was this; while there are bones, muscles and skin in humans, when colors and furs are included in animals, there was an extra curiosity, a search and an excitement.”
Ebru Köreken, who stated that she expresses herself more through painting and art than words, gave information about the works that have affected her the most. “Art is a very different dimension. Yes, I am doing something, yes, there are these questions. The painting that caused this to come out even more is the “inside” painting. It is a figure turned back, pressing its head. It is a painting that shows that chaotic, questioning state very much. I can say that it has taught me a lot in terms of technique. I can also say that the last four-dog figure I made.”
The exhibition will be at the Brush Art Gallery until October 22.
About There is No Place to Hide
A deep questioning of existence is the essence of human experience. On the line between death and life, traces of anxiety and loneliness become apparent. Moments reveal the inner conflicts of the individual. Revealing the hidden, the dark and deep side of questioning and awareness, the reflections of emotions and experiences are the truth of my paintings. The journey requires delving into the depths of the subconscious and looking at what is ignored. Art is also a part of a struggle for existence; this struggle takes shape in the search for creating new meanings.
