Captain Tuncay Topcu’s Seyr-i Aşk exhibition is meeting with visitors at Urla Kırmızı Art Gallery.

Consisting of recent paintings by Pilot Kapt. Tuncay Topçu, a 1988 graduate of the High Maritime School (YDO), Seyr-i Aşk exhibition has opened at Urla Kırmızı Art Gallery. The exhibition can be visited until August 12, 2024.

Curated by Dr. Ferhunde Alğaç Meriç, the exhibition highlights the artist’s change in imagery and the ongoing color integrity in his recent works. Dr. Ferhunde Alğaç Meriç describes the change in the artist’s work as follows:

“In Tuncay Topcu’s recent paintings, we witness his “seyr-i aşk”. The large surfaces where the images that have come with uninterrupted and consecutive divisions and that have undeniably come to be accepted, are wrapped protectively and freely with the tones of a single color, are the traces of the artist's indispensable style.

However, in his recent paintings, his calmer, serene, dynamic but slowly moving, static, images formed with shrinking divisions, the unbroken color integrity despite the fact that the single color has ordinary, natural and degraded tones within itself, stand out.”

The artist, who usually does not name his paintings, uses names dominated by a momentary, poetic language in his recent works.

Dr. Ferhunde Alğaç Meriç expressed the following about the effect that colors create on emotions in Topçu's works:

“We clearly see the presence of mature, unique colors on the canvas. In addition to all these, with the transparent and complementary tonal changes of his peaceful colors, he feels the need to define and name a stronger emotion than the happiness that a color makes us feel, and ultimately leads us to love.

These paintings recall from our being the feeling we feel when we are openly in love… What is reflected on the canvas at the end of the emotional process is the visual appearance of these feelings, the projection of the love impulse, the reflections of the journey of love, in the final analysis…”
